What is Pigmentation?
Commonly seen as brown spots or patches on the skin, Pigmentation is due to the accumulation of melanin in the skin.
Melanin is produced by melanocytes usually in response to a trigger such as sun exposure.

Types of Common Pigmentation
- Freckles - Small, flat brown spots that may appear in childhood and commonly seen on sun exposed areas.
- Solar Lentigo - Otherwise known as Sun / Age / Liver spots, they may appear larger or darker than freckles. Commonly seen on sun exposed areas, they are associated with increased age and sun exposure.
- Melasma - Appearing as brown, sometimes symmetrical patches on the face, it is more common in ladies and those with darker skin tones.
